Congratulations to Matthew Byrd, Loyola College Prep’s recipient of the DAR Good Citizens Award. Matthew was selected by the faculty and recognized this week after Mass in front of the student body, where Mrs. Anna Beth Clark presented him with the honor.
Created in 1934, the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest encourages and celebrates the qualities of outstanding citizenship. Matthew exemplifies these traits through his involvement in football, the Spiritual Life Team, and FCA, as well as his service as a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion and an altar server. He has also served as a featured speaker for Loyola’s class retreats.
“Matthew is a true leader with the kindest heart,” said Dr. Laurie Salvail. “He is such a strong representative of our school for the DAR award and as a Flyer in the community. We are proud to have him at Loyola.”
This award honors high school seniors who demonstrate dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. As Loyola’s DAR Good Citizen, Matthew is now eligible to participate in the scholarship portion of the program, which includes submitting a personal statement and an essay. Scholarships are awarded at the chapter, state, division, and national levels.
We wish Matthew the very best as he competes at the next stage!
