Call of the Wild by Jack London
One pager project – a one pager is a collage of illustrations and written analyses on one page that make up an aesthetically pleasing and detailed interpretation of a piece of literature.
Directions: Share your unique understanding of the text on one page by imaginatively blending your written ideas with colorful images from the story. You should spend at least thirty minutes brainstorming ideas before you begin decorating your page. Use a standard piece of paper.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Annotate for the information listed below. You may use sticky notes, note cards, or nay other method – not typed – for your responses to the reading. Highlight and number the passage in your book and then number your note to match the passage to which it is referring. Comments must be in complete sentences and will be evaluated for content and depth of thinking. ONLY physical copies of the book are allowed. E readers and online copies are not acceptable.
THEME – notice events, quotes, passages, ideas that are related to the theme
FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE – Identify and write out two examples of figurative language – Why is it used What is the point?
VOCABULARY – Identify 6 words from the novel that are new to you and provide a definition
QUESTIONS – Write at least three questions predicting the outcome of the novel
Be prepared for an in-depth discussion of the novel on the first day of class.

All incoming English II students are required to read at least one book of their choosing over the summer break.
Please approach this project with integrity. In other words, the book must be of the appropriate grade level, and it must be a book the student has never read before. Students may NOT read any of the following books, as they will be material covered during the year.
