FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shreveport, La. – Loyola College Prep is proud to introduce its newest member of the Flyer family: Flyer the Beagle, the school’s first live mascot. Flyer is more than a symbol of school spirit, he is in training to be a certified therapy pet who will bring joy, comfort, and some fun to the Loyola community.
Flyer’s handlers have trained with the support and guidance of Louisiana Tech University, whose staff has generously shared their expertise in live mascot programs. In addition, Flyer will be cared for by the Stanberry family, with freshman Quinn Stanberry serving as one of his trained student handlers. Flyer also has the support of a full team of student handlers who will walk with him at games, pep rallies, and school events.
“Loyola has always been unique in having Snoopy, the Red Baron, as our mascot, and now we’re the only high school in the country to have a live Beagle mascot to match,” said Dr. Laurie Salvail, Principal of Loyola College Prep. “Flyer is adorable, spirited, and already loved by our students. He represents what makes our school special tradition, joy, and Flyer pride.”
Flyer’s health and well-being will be overseen by University Veterinary Hospital (UVH), with special thanks to the Foret family for their services. UVH will serve as the official veterinary partner for Flyer.
Flyer made his debut at the Loyola Homecoming pep rally today and will quickly become a familiar face around campus. His presence not only adds excitement and fun to Loyola traditions but also provides the benefits of a therapy dog, bringing comfort and cheer to students and staff alike.
“From the start, we knew Flyer would be the perfect fit for Loyola,” said Dr. Salvail. “He’s already become part of our family, and we can’t wait for the community to meet him.”
